I did not have to cut any pvc pipe to make this fit and this one was only slightly longer than the 1/3 HP model I replaced.
I got this unit to replace a Badger 5, which is not noticeable in normal operation, but the extra 1/2 HP is nice when you need to dispose of a lot of food.
I decided to keep the InSinkErator Badger brand and get another one with a 3 year warranty because I didn't want to have to cut the pipes to retrofit a different brand.
I was told by customer service that I should be able to grind chicken bones. I threw in a whole popsicle stick, but it didn't work.
